Hi, I'm Everett. I’m a career pivot coach and a soon-to-be therapist, currently earning my MA in Counseling at Loyola Marymount University. I help people who feel stuck in careers that look good on paper but feel wrong in real life, especially creatives and folks navigating burnout, identity shifts, and big life transitions.
I grew up in a creative household where art shaped my identity early. By eight years old, I was in private art lessons, and by middle school my work was in galleries. Fun fact, my great-great-great uncle is Aaron Douglas of the Harlem Renaissance so it goes without saying, the pressure to tie art to my identity was there from the beginning. So when I eventually lost my passion for art when my longtime art teacher passed away, I also lost my sense of direction.
What followed was a tumultuous journey of self-discovery through theatre and acting, and eventually graphic design. I earned an MFA from ArtCenter College of Design, believing I’d finally found stability and fulfillment. Instead, I found burnout, frustration, and the emotional weight of navigating creative industries as a Black man in spaces that often felt isolating.
Therapy changed everything. It helped me survive my hardest seasons, reconnect with myself, and get honest about what wasn’t working. During the pandemic, I facilitated men’s support groups, and those conversations showed me where I felt most alive, guiding others like me.
Career pivot coaching grew from that and now I work with people ready to stop forcing a life that isn’t working and start building one that actually feels good to live.
